How We Deliver Actionable Website Audits – Step by Step

Every successful website is built on a strong foundation of key metrics and best practices.

We provide comprehensive audits that help websites meet their full potential.

Here's how we do it, step by step.

1. Running a Google Lighthouse Report

To start, we analyze the core metrics of your website using Google Lighthouse.

Google Lighthouse is a comprehensive, open-source auditing tool that helps assess a website’s performance, accessibility, and adherence to best practices.

It's essentially what Google itself uses to evaluate how a site performs for the average user.

This powerful tool, integrated into Chrome DevTools, evaluates essential aspects of your site, including:

  • Page Speed: Ensures your website loads quickly and efficiently on all devices, reducing bounce rates.
  • Accessibility: Confirms that your site is usable for all visitors, including those with visual or motor impairments.
  • SEO: Shows how well your website is optimized for search engines and suggests areas for improvement.
  • Adherence to Best Development Practices: Checks that your website follows industry standards to create a secure and maintainable codebase.

Although running the report is straightforward (you can generate one using the Chrome DevTools under the "Lighthouse" tab), understanding and remediating the results can be challenging without expertise.

I ran the audit on my site and found areas of improvement, even though my overall scores were solid.

Below is a summary of the findings and my decision-making process:

  • Performance: My Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) score was slightly lower due to a hero animation on my homepage, which delays initial render. If I remove the animation, my performance score jumps from 86 to 99. However, I chose to keep the animation because it enhances the visual appeal of my site and fits my brand identity.
  • Accessibility: I checked my color contrast ratios using different contrast-checking tools and found most areas compliant. The remaining issues are minor and won't significantly affect usability, so I’ve noted them but kept the design intact for now.
  • SEO: No issues.
  • Unused JavaScript & Image Optimization: There are warnings about some large images and unused JavaScript. While I could reduce my image sizes by 25%, I prefer to keep them a bit larger to maintain quality.

Pro Tip:

Always run Lighthouse in Incognito Mode. Chrome extensions can skew results by adding extra scripts or styles that won’t be present for your typical user.

If you see flags around unminified JavaScript, it’s often due to an extension, not your code.

2. Recorded Loom Session – In-depth Website Walkthrough

Alongside the technical audit, we provide a recorded Loom session to walk you through the visual and user experience elements.

Here’s what we look for:

Mobile Responsiveness

A significant portion of traffic comes from mobile devices.

We check how well your site adapts to various screen sizes and ensure seamless functionality on mobile.

Hero Statement (Elevator Pitch)

The first impression matters.

We’ll analyze your homepage’s hero section to see if it clearly communicates your brand’s value and purpose within seconds.

On my site, I immediately show users how I can help—using not just text, but also color and animation to reinforce my commitment and ability to delivering on my promise.

Ease of Navigation

Is it easy for users to find what they’re looking for?

We’ll assess how intuitive your website navigation is, identifying areas where your site can become more user-friendly.

Clear Call to Actions (CTAs)

Do your users know what to do next?

We make sure your CTAs are prominent and drive the right actions, leading to conversions.

Here's an example from my services page: after outlining my offerings, I provide a clear call to action, guiding the user on how to take the next step.

3. Website Storytelling & Branding

Narrative Flow

Every great website tells a story—does yours deliver a clear and cohesive one?

We review how well your website's design and content guide visitors through your brand’s narrative, building trust and engagement.

Fonts & Color Schemes

Design should follow a natural pattern.

We assess whether your fonts and color schemes are consistent, visually appealing, and aligned with your brand identity.

4. Image and Video Optimization

Are the images and videos on your site high-quality and fast-loading?

We check if the visuals are optimized (compressed) without losing quality, ensuring a fast and visually stunning experience.

5. Social Proof

Visitors want to see examples of trust.

We’ll review whether your site provides clear examples of social proof, such as testimonials, case studies, or user-generated content that builds credibility.

I feature the most recognizable client logos front and center on my website to demonstrate the value I’ve delivered for high-end brands.

A website audit is more than just a checklist – it’s an actionable roadmap to improving user experience, performance, and conversions.
